On Sunday, April 14th at 7:30am, hundreds of runners will gather at West Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park Horticultural center, ready for an energizing start to the biggest day of the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival! This early morning run will take you by some iconic Philadelphia sights such as the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden (find them on Facebook here), and give you a reason to take in the sight of Fairmount Park’s cherry blossom trees at their peak!
For anyone seeking motivation or a personal reason to give the 5K a shot, you might enjoy reading widely acclaimed Japanese author Haruki Murakami (The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, 1Q84) take on the subject in his memoir, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. Murakami has been running marathons and even an ultramarathon since he began long-distance running in the early 1980s, and What I Talk About is his meditation on his own interest and experience in running.
Join us and other Philly runners in kicking off Sakura Sunday with an energizing beginning! Register for the race here, or see this site’s event page here.
