J-pop band Magverry is making their first trip stateside, performing in Washington before hitting Sakura Sunday’s main stage. The four piece rock group have been performing since 2007.
Lead singer Jin (from Tochigi) and guitarist Nobu (from Shinagawa) were united by their shared love of 80’s music. The name Magverry is taken from the famous products of their Jin and Nobu’s hometowns – maguro (tuna) from Shinagawa and ichigo (strawberries). They are joined by drummer Kan-chan and bassist Tsuyopon.
Magverry prides itself on infusing complex melodies into rock songs. The band’s pop sensibilities are blended with a bit of visual kei stylings and make for entertaining combination. Check out the video for さよなら優等生 – “Goodbye Honors Student” and start getting excited for their performance at 1:30 on Sakura Sunday!
