You’ve probably seen the sakura-mobile (our cherry blossom-themed 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid) driving around town or parked in the Liberty Place rotunda) this past week, and you’ve probably been wondering, “Who is that awesome-looking character on the side?”
We took you suggestions for a name last week and received a huge number of submissions! We can tell you guys put a lot of thought into the name suggestions, and it’s hard to pick out just one. So we narrowed it down to the top three, and we’re going to leave them up to a vote. Let’s take a close look at the names and why you suggested them. All names are done first name first (rather than last name first a la the Japanese way).
Momoka Harumi: “Momoka Harumi is fitting for this character because of the meaning of each name: Momoka – A thousand flowers, Harumi – Springtime beauty. When you think about a Sakura tree, it’s definitely known for it’s vibrant beauty during the Spring season. And the multitude of it’s flowers and petals in full bloom can seem like an elegant dress that brings out the beautiful attributes of the tree. The mascot should be named Momoka Harumi because when you look at her and her attire, the elegant kimono that she wears brings out the beauty of this girl just like the Sakura flowers does for the tree it’s worn on. She looks like she also has that so-called Springtime countenance if you look at her.”
Sakura Hanauchi: “Sakura is the name of the Japanese flower. Hana means flower, and uchi means home or house.”
Haruko Sakurai: “A little obvious, but I think it fits :)”
So what do you guys think? It’s a difficult choice! All of these names are great! Vote on the name you like best in the poll below, and we will announce the winner on Sakura Sunday, April 13!
