Yosakoi Dance Project 10tecomai will return to Philadelphia once again for this year’s Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival on Sakura Sunday. 10tecomai is where Japanese and hundreds of other cultures meet, based on a traditional yet contemporary dance form called “Yosakoi.” While holding a prop known as ‘Naruko,’ dancers intensely and dramatically dance as the chanter’s cry instigates the piece. It’s a dance that won’t stop and can’t be stopped.
Born in New York, 10tecomai’s Executive Artistic Director Tomas Trinidad has been involved for over 15 years in the performing arts with many diverse cultures. His most notable performances include representing the Philippines at the World’s Fair in Lisbon, Portugal, Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and performing on the Martha Stewart Show.
With past performances during Sakura Sunday in 2011, 2012 and 2014, you know won’t want to miss yet another one of their riveting and energetic performances at the Main Stage at 11:15 am this year! See the full Sakura Sunday schedule.
