Sakura Sunday’s official area focused on anime, manga, and other forms of contemporary Japanese culture will return this year to the same area located at the rear of the Horticulture Center building. Named after one of Tokyo’s most famous districts – Akihabara, popularly known as Akiba – it is the place to be for all things otaku! In addition to vendors of anime/manga-related goods, this hotspot will also include:
Karaoke & J-Core Music
A DJ will be providing the soundtrack and setting the mood for the area with anime inspired music and karaoke performances. You can get in the act too by stopping by to sing your favorite Japanese song. Feel free to bring your music on CD, USB drive, or MP3 player to guarantee your chance to showcase your pipes!
Cosplay Fashion Show
Eastern Pennsylvania’s largest anime convention Zenkaikon will return to bring a sampling of their annual festivities. Arrive early to see their Cosplay Showcase on the Main Stage at 11:45 AM. Find Registration for the Cosplay Showcase Here! In addition to their Anime/Manga swap meet, they’ll be leading the Cosplay Fashion Show which you can sign up for here! Follow Zenkaikon on facebook, tumblr, or twitter to stay up to date on details and for news on their Lancaster, PA convention.
Harajuku Fashion Show
We’ve got a double dose of fashion in 2017. The Art Institute of Philadelphia will be showcasing Harajuku-inspired outfits on both the main stage and Little Akiba’s runway!
If you’re not satisfied with the stage line up, tour the many vendors, grab a bite to eat, or enjoy your favorite bubble tea while you watch KuroPOP blow you away with their second performance of the day at 4:00 PM!
How do I get to Little Akiba?
Get off the Yamanote Line and make a left at the Gundam Cafe… just kidding. Little Akiba is located behind the Horticulture Center. Just follow the road coming in from the Main Gate. Check out the full Sakura Sunday schedule here.
