The 2018 Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival is officially in the books. While the festival culminated in Sakura Sunday on April 15, there are a few days to see Philly’s trees in bloom (don’t wait until the weekend!) and spring festival events presented by Maido and Kyo Daiko keep the excitement going into the weekend.
During the nine days of festivities, Philadelphians came out in droves to visit Shofuso in the evening, participate in workshops and demonstrations, have a drink at the Sake Garden, and simply take in the splendor of the cherry trees. We set two new records on Saturday: over 450 runners and walkers participated in the Cherry Blossom 10K & 5K, and over 2,400 guests visited Shofuso! We thank our incredible, dedicated festival fans for coming to the Horticulture Center to celebrate Sakura Sunday in spite of the weather. More than 5,000 people came out to enjoy some incredible performances and participate in the many activities on offer. Your dedication keeps us going!
We want to thank the festival sponsors, especially Subaru, for helping us put together another wonderful year. We owe great thanks to our performers, vendors, volunteers, and demonstrators for braving the elements on Sakura Sunday: once again, we thank you for making 2018 a year to remember. Don’t forget to save the date for next year’s festival: Sakura Sunday will be held on April 14, 2019!
